How to guarantee success in 2009
Psalms 1 gives us a simple yet perfect recipe to ensure all you put your hand to will succeed. Boy, we need a bit of that given the terrible state of our country (economy and morals) at the conclusion of 2008.
Reflecting on the terrible state of our economy and moral condition of our country at the conclusion of 2008, we need a to figure out how to turn this ship around personally, in our churches, and for the nation at large.
So given that, what if I could show you a fail-proof recipe to guarantee the you would be successful in all you do? What if I could provide a fool-proof method for ensuring personal economic growth? What would you think of a flawless method for producing individual spiritual or moral growth? Boy, you'd probably like me to write about this in a book, and I'd probably could make a lot of money if I could guarantee these things.
So, I'm going to do better than that. I'm gonna blog the secret right here and give it away for free. Psalms 1 says:
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with scoffers. But they delight in doing everything the LORD wants; day and night they think about his law. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season without fail. Their leaves never wither, and in all they do, they prosper. But this is not true of the wicked. They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgement. Sinners will have no place among the godly. For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.
There it is. Do you delight in doing everything, I mean, everything the Lord wants? Do you think about His law day and night? If you do, God says that you will bear fruit every season without failure! Your leaves will never wither. Everything you do will prosper. The last time I checked, everything is probably all inclusive, and so this includes the efforts I put into my wife, my family, my church ministries, my work activities, my financial investments, my hobbies, etc... All of these will prosper and never fail to bear fruit? That's pretty awesome.
I guess I need to figure out in 2009 what it means to do everything the Lord wants and what it means to think about His law day and night.
