Patching VMware's networking drivers to deal with slow network performance
On ESXi 4.1, any VM functioning as a routing / packet forwarding device (i.e. virtual router, firewall, etc...) will experience extremely slow performance if you use the VMXNET or VMXNET3 driver. This generally affects CentOS, RHEL5, and probably other Linux O/S'es. I have to temporarily patch the source code for VMXNET3 (in my case I use this driver) following the instructions on this site: http://nwsmith.blogspot.com/2010/07/patching-vmxnet-to-disable-lro.html. What am I doing here?
Why are there a bunch of 2-year old blog entries showing up on my site? Well, I'm trying to re-engergize my efforts to write and blog so I've setup this Drupal site as a place for me to begin writing again. And so I've started the process by copying old articles I wrote over two years ago from another technology (Plone-based CMS) to this site so I can eventually ditch the older Plone-based site.
So bear with me. I hope to have newer content on here soon as soon as I get the remaining articles migrated over to this site.
